Is Max Landis writing a remake of An American Werewolf in London?

The popularity of John Landis's 1981 classic AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON makes it an obvious property to give the remake treatment, and it's shocking that we haven't already gotten one. Not that there haven't been attempts at getting a new version made - Dimension Films pursued the rights several years ago, and in 2010 we heard they had THE NUMBER 23 scribe Fernley Phillips working on the script.

The Dimension/Phillips take on the material obviously went nowhere, but now our friends over at Bloody-Disgusting seem convinced that there is another screenwriter working on a remake of AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON right now.

That screenwriter? John Landis's son Max Landis, whose work has included CHRONICLE and VICTOR FRANKENSTEIN. This speculation stems from Max's Twitter account, where he said:

If this John Landis property Max Landis is writing a remake of is indeed AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON, it would certainly make sense. The younger Landis has shown an affinity for WEREWOLF/werewolves throughout the years, getting his start co-writing the Masters of Horror episode Deer Woman - which features a reference to the events of AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON - with his dad. Max then wrote a werewolf-themed episode for the TV series Fear Itself. If that weren't enough, he's even gone so far as to star in a web video recreation of WEREWOLF's unforgettable transformation scene.

This should be taken strictly as rumor and speculation and with a huge grain of salt for now, there is no official confirmation, but it wouldn't be very surprising if it is announced that Max Landis has scripted a re-do of AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON.

And from July...
