Friday the 13th: The Game legal issues are worse than we thought...

Looks like FRIDAY THE 13TH: THE GAME is in a bit more of a pickle than we first thought. As you may remember, last week we shared the lame news that the game had fallen victim to original FRIDAY THE 13TH-scribe Victor Miller's ongoing lawsuit to regain the rights to Jason Voorhees, and the news wasn't good. And unfortunately, it turns out the news is even worse than we thought.

Wes from Gun Media took to the official website's forum yesterday with a post called "Questions About Future Content." He basically goes on to say that the game developers can not only NOT add new characters, levels, or counselors to the game they - get this shite - can't even add so much as a "new tree or rock." Ouch. Here's Wes' full post from f13game.com:

Hey Campers,

Sorry for the silence as of recent. It’s been a tough couple weeks, as I’m sure you’re aware. But I wanted to address a few questions that I’ve had sent to me personally, as well as questions we’ve received through the official F13 channels. These questions vary but all have a similar tone/request. “Is there a chance of any content being added to the game if a ruling on the dispute occurs in the near future?” The answer is no.

Development on games can’t just pause indefinitely and pick back up again; it doesn’t work that way. Especially when you have no idea when that future date will occur. We can’t keep building content that may never see the light of day. That’s bad business. I’ve also had questions about adding “non-F13” related content to the game. “Can’t you make a new level or a new counselor that has nothing to do with the films?” We can’t do that either. We can’t add any content, whatsoever. Nada. Not even a new tree or rock. We can only focus on console dedicated servers, bug fixes, and maintenance.

I know this isn’t the news you wanted to hear and I wish the situation were different. But it’s the painful truth. I appreciate your passion and look forward to seeing everyone around camp.

Well, this sucks. I haven't been a major player in the world of this game online, but I've played it quite a bit and I'm sad to hear all of the developer's awesome updates are being pulled down to a dead stop because of B.S. legal B.S. Especially since it seems the powers that be on the movie-side of things can't seem to get their shite together enough to produce another film. This game was the only way we fans were getting our Jason-fix, and the creators of the classic character seem to want to take even that away from us.

Sorry if I'm being a bit too over-dramatic here. But this is Jason we're talking about. And I get a little emotional when people try to stand between me and my Jason. I'm kinda like Pamela Voorhees in that way. Whatever comes of all of this legal mumbo-jumbo, we will make sure to keep you guys up to date. Stay tuned...
