In director Mike Flanagan's 2016 film HUSH, we saw that lead character Maddie Young had written a book titled Midnight Mass. Her book later turned up on a shelf in Flanagan's 2017 Stephen King adaptation GERALD'S GAME… and now the story behind Midnight Mass is set to become a limited series on Netflix.
As it turns out, Flanagan dropped those Midnight Mass Easter eggs into HUSH and GERALD'S GAME because he had started writing the story while his 2013 movie OCULUS was in pre-production. This idea has been with him for several years, and now he's about to bring it to life on the screen.
On Saturday, the filmmaker took to his Twitter account to let followers know he was heading to Vancouver to finish work on The Haunting of Bly Manor, the second season of the Netflix anthology series he started with The Haunting of Hill House, and once that's done he'll be starting work on the Midnight Mass series.

Midnight Mass will consist of seven episodes and tell the story of
an isolated island community that experiences miraculous events — and frightening omens — after the arrival of a charismatic, mysterious young priest.
Flanagan will be directing all of the episodes. He's also executive producing the series the series with Trevor Macy.
The only confirmed cast member so far is Robert Longstreet, who will also be seen in HALLOWEEN KILLS later this year.
