UPDATE: Fox has confirmed the news that Blomkamp is directing the next ALIEN film, which Ridley Scott will produce. The studio also said that Scott’s PROMETHEUS 2 is still in development.
After all the news surrounding Neill Blomkamp and his brilliant concept art for a possible new ALIEN movie, we had the feeling it was building up towards… something. Well, that something turns out to be that ALIEN will in fact be Blomkamp’s next film. This news comes from the director himself, who took to Instagram to write, “Um… So I think it's officially my next film. #alien”

From what we've seen out of Blomkamp, as far as his concept art goes, I really don't think there's a better person to bring ALIEN back to the big screen, especially when you factor in the chances of Sigourney Weaver returning as Ripley. Recently, the franchise actress went so far as to say that "If something happens from this, it would be very organic and very original, and because of that, it would make me want to do it. If it was someone as talented as Neill, I’d certainly listen.” Now that the word is out, I suspect we'll be hearing a lot more from Blomkamp's ALIEN sooner than later.
