New stills from Ryan Gosling’s Lost River, starring Matt Smith

Ryan Gosling's directorial debut LOST RIVER will be making its debut at Cannes next week and we've gotten our hands on a handful of new stills from the flick to share with you. These latest stills follow the ones we brought you last month (you can peep those HERE and HERE), and continue to add to the mystique of this film that looks to be a very surrealistic head-scratcher.

These new stills come from Ryan Gosling Addicted, who also scored a statement from the actor-turned-director about the tone and style of the film:

This film was, in a lot ways, a gift from the directors I’ve been working with over the last few years. I’ve gone between acting in films completely based in reality with Derek Cianfrance to the fevered dreams of Nicolas Winding Refn. I think I’ve vacillated between these two extremes because my own sensibilities as a filmmaker lay somewhere in-between.

We're most certainly intrigued by this project and can't wait to hear the word out of Cannes on how it plays.

Set against the surreal dreamscape of a vanishing city, Billy, a single mother of two, is swept into a macabre and dark fantasy underworld while Bones, her eighteen-year-old son, discovers a secret road leading to an underwater town. Both Billy and Bones must dive deep into the mystery, if their family is to survive."

LOST RIVER also stars Ben Mendohlson, Saoirse Ronan, Matt Smith, Barbara Steele, Ian De Caestecker and Eva Mendes. Warner Bros. will release the film at some point this year.
