John Carpenter's HALLOWEEN isn't the only horror classic celebrating the anniversary of its release with a return to theatres. While HALLOWEEN is turning 40, George A. Romero's NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD is celebrating 50 years of terrifying audiences, and Fathom Events has announced that they will be hosting 50th anniversary screenings of the film in theatres on two nights next month.
NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD was recently restored and remastered in 4K Ultra HD from the original camera negative, a process that was supervised by Romero and sound engineer Gary Streiner before Romero passed away last year. That 4K restoration is what Fathom will be sending out to theatre screens.

NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD is a
deceptively simple tale of a group of strangers trapped in a farmhouse who find themselves fending off a horde of recently dead, flesh-eating ghouls. Romero's claustrophobic vision of a late-1960s America literally tearing itself apart rewrote the rules of the horror genre, combined gruesome gore with acute social commentary, and quietly broke ground by casting a black actor (Duane Jones) in its lead role.

I'm really glad to hear that NIGHT is coming back to theatres for its anniversary; this is one of my favorite films, the one I have watched more than any other, and I'll always jump at the chance to see it on the big screen.
The Byham Theater in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the place where NIGHT's world premiere was held on October 1st, 1968, will also be hosting its own screening of the film next month.
