RUMOR: Evil Dead Rise may take place in a high-rise building

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Earlier this month, we shared the news that the EVIL DEAD rights holders – Sam Raimi, Bruce Campbell, and Rob Tapert – had chosen THE HOLE IN THE GROUND's Lee Cronin to write and direct a new entry in the EVIL DEAD franchise, a film that was referred to as EVIL DEAD NOW at the time. A couple days ago, Campbell said in an interview that the film's official title is actually EVIL DEAD RISE, and teased that the Deadite action will not be taking place at a cabin in the woods this time around.

In a new video, YouTuber Jimmy Champane has revealed that a trusted source got in contact with him in the days between the EVIL DEAD NOW and EVIL DEAD RISE reports to say,

Instead of being set at a cabin in the woods, this movie is going to take place in an office building, or a sky-rise, as they put it."

This is just a RUMOR for now, but I'm all for it turning out to be a fact.

Campbell has said that he is retired from the role of franchise hero Ash, and confirmed that he will not be playing the character in EVIL DEAD RISE. He said the EVIL DEAD movies will "kind of have to stand on their own" from this point forward,

which is fine. And liberating…You could have different heroes, different heroines in this case. This one’s gonna be a little more dynamic… We just want to keep the series current. And the mantra, really, is that our heroes and heroines are just regular people. That’s what we’re going to continue."

Maybe it was the "RISE" in the new title, maybe it was the fact that I just rewatched PSYCHO COP RETURNS a couple weeks ago, but as soon as I read that there would be "no more cabin in the woods", one of the first thoughts that came to my mind was that EVIL DEAD RISE should be set in a high-rise building. Ideally an apartment building, like DEMONS 2, but I could go along with it being an office building as well. A sky-rise, a high-rise, a skyscraper, whatever you want to call it, that sounds like a great setting for an EVIL DEAD movie to me.
