The Last Exorcism’s Daniel Stamm to direct The Devil’s Light

A few months ago, on Halloween in fact, we learned that Lionsgate and Gold Circle are moving forward with an exorcism thriller called THE DEVIL'S LIGHT, scripted by HALLOWEEN H20's Robert Zappia. At the time, James Hawes – whose credits include episodes of Doctor Who and Penny Dreadful – was attached to direct the film, but apparently there has been some kind of shake-up behind the scenes since Halloween. As Lionsgate prepares to present the project to international distributors at the European Film Market, online listings have Daniel Stamm credited as the film's director.

THE DEVIL'S LIGHT will mark Stamm's return to the exorcism sub-genre ten years after the release of his found footage film THE LAST EXORCISM.

Zappia's script tells the story of

Sister Ann, a restless 25-year-old, who devoutly believes that performing exorcisms is her calling. But she is at odds with the institution’s traditions: sisters are not allowed to perform exorcisms, only priests. With the support of a mentor, a professor who senses her special gift, she is allowed to observe actual training sessions. Her desire to prove herself takes a personal turn when she meets one of the school’s most disturbed patients. During their harrowing encounters, Sister Ann comes face to face with a demonic force that infests the school and has mysterious ties to her own past. It is then that the power of evil and her own startling abilities are fully realized.

THE DEVIL'S LIGHT is being produced by Paul Brooks, Jessica Malanaphy, Todd Jones, and Earl Richey Jones. Scott Niemeyer, David Brooks, and Brad Kessell serve as executive producers, with Meredith Wieck and Eda Kowan overseeing the project for Lionsgate. Kowan and Jason Constantine secured the rights for Lionsgate.

Lionsgate will be distributing the film in North America, the UK, and Latin America.

As of October 31st, THE DEVIL'S LIGHT was expected to begin filming sometime in the first half of this year.

Stamm's other credits include episodes of Scream: The TV Series and Fear the Walking Dead. He also contributed the Valentine's Day film DOWN to the Blumhouse / Hulu anthology Into the Dark.
