The Mortal Instruments rings up Jonathan Rhys Meyers to play a shadowhunter

From Dracula to…THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS? Who the hell is JRM’s agent?

THR claims that Jonathan Rhys Meyers (right) is the latest in talks to star in Harold Zwart’s THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS. If he agrees, Meyers will play Valentine Morgenstern, described as a powerful but insane Shadowhunter looking to make the world pure at any cost.

Set in contemporary New York City, a seemingly ordinary teenager, Clary Fray, discovers she is the descendant of a line of Shadowhunters, a secret cadre of young half-angel warriors locked in an ancient battle to protect our world from demons. After the disappearance of her mother, Clary must join forces with a group of Shadowhunters, who introduce her to a dangerous alternate New York called Downworld, filled with demons, warlocks, vampires, werewolves and other deadly creatures.

Lily Collins, Jemima West, Jamie Campbell Bower, Lena Headey (below), Jared Harris, Kevin Durand, Robert Maillet, Robert Sheehan, Kevin Zegers, CCH Pounder, Aidan Turner and Godfrey Gao all level out the solid ensemble.
