Lifetime's upcoming remake of MOTHER, MAY I SLEEP WITH DANGER?, produced by James Franco, is re-vamping the original cult classic TV film. Literally. They're updating the story of a dangerous love by kicking things up a notch and introducing a vampires. Please allow me to be the first to say… What the hell?

In case you don't believe me, here's the official plot:

When theater major Leah brings home the special someone in her life to meet her mom, Julie, the family is met with a surprise when Pearl comes to the door. Julie tries to embrace the idea of Leah’s new love interest, but she can’t shake the feeling that something is very wrong. Julie’s suspicions lead to a startling discovery about Pearl that puts Leah in serious danger. Will Julie be able to save her daughter from an eternity of heartache before it’s too late?

Leah is played by Leila George (THE LONG HOME), Julie is played by Tori Spelling (who also starred in the original film, but is playing a different character), and Pearl is played by Emily Meade (Broad City). They are joined by original cast member Ivan Sergei as well as Nick Eversman (WILD).

This is either the worst idea I've ever heard or the best, and I have no idea which. I suppose we'll find out when the TV movie airs on Lifetime on June 18th, celebrating the original film's 20th anniversary.

The TV movie was directed by Melanie Aitkenhead from a script by Amber Coney.
