The new Planet of the Apes film gets a title

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

Matt Reeves’ follow-up to his smashing DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES doesn’t come out for another 2+ years, but thankfully the director and 20th Century Fox are already hard at work on the sequel. The script is still being hammered out, but it would appear as though a title has already been decided upon; Collider got the scoop on what this third film in the rebooted PLANET OF THE APES franchise will be called:

WAR OF THE PLANET OF THE APES

Don’t have too much of an opinion on this right now, though I’ll admit it seems to be the natural progression for this series. (Though we should note this hasn’t been confirmed by Fox yet.) When we last left them, the titular apes had won a slight victory over human antagonists, but all was far from well in Caesar’s world. Shit is about to get real.

Mark Bomback, who co-wrote DAWN, is penning the screenplay for WAR, which opens July 14, 2017. That seems very far away, doesn’t it?
