Trailer and poster for Argentinian giallo Francesca creep online

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

In 2013, Luciano Onetti made his feature writing and directing debut with SONNO PROFONDO (a.k.a. DEEP SLEEP), a film that paid tribute to the Italian giallos of the 1970s. When the movie was released, Onetti said that his second film would be a giallo as well, but one with more violence, blood, and eroticism.

Onetti's second film, FRANCESCA, will be making its world premiere at the Sitges Film Festival next month, and in anticipation of its screening there a poster and trailer have been released online and can be seen below.

Written by Luciano Onetti and his brother Nicolás, FRANCESCA has the following story:

It's been 15 years since the disappearance of little Francesca, daughter of the renowned storyteller, poet   and dramatist Vittorio Visconti, and the community is stalked by a psychopath bent on cleaning the city of "impure and damned souls". Moretti and Succo, questioned by the ineffectiveness ofthe police force, are the detectives in charge of elucidating the mystery surrounding these "Dantesque" crimes. Francesca seems to have returned, but she is not the same girl who everyone knew…

Raul Gederlini, Silvina Grippaldi, Luis Emilio Rodríguez, and Gustavo D'Alessandro star.

Filmed in Argentina, the dialogue in Italian, FRANCESCA really does look like a lost giallo from yesteryear, as Onetti seems to have perfectly replicated the tone and style of the films he was inspired by. I've never been much of a giallo fan myself, but I'm interested in seeing what Onetti has done with his new entries in the genre.

Beware a quick flash of NSFWness in the trailer.
