US already eyeing remake of yet-to-be-released Colombian horror The Squad?!

Last Updated on July 23, 2021

Do you guys remember us telling you about that Colombian genre flick EL PARAMO (THE SQUAD)? No worries if you don’t recall this one, truth is it didn’t seem very memorable. Then again apparently it’s turned enough heads to get a US remake in the works!

According to Colombia Reports via Radio Santa Fe it seems production company Rhayuela Cine received a number of offers from Los Angeles and New York based film companies for the U.S. rights to the military horror romp. The kicker here is the flick hasn’t even come out yet! It’s set to hit Colombia on October 7th. But that’s not stopping the US yo!

So who won the rights to this one? Before I spill that news let me hit you all with the rundown on the Jaime Osorio Marquez-directed film first:

Filmed at a real military base that stands at 14,000 feet above sea level, El Paramo depicts a special command unit of soldiers that are sent to investigate a mountain top military base that has lost contact with headquarters.

The nine soldiers go expecting to find evidence of an guerrilla attack, but the enemy they find is not what they thought it would be.

And the winner is…. Scott LaStaiti! Wait.. Who? LaStaiti is best known for producing the genre flick TURISTAS and LOVE IN THE TIME OF CHOLERA. Here’s what the producer had to say regarding his pick-up: “….They did a great job with El Paramo. It’s a chilling film. … [the film] doesn’t just look to get an immediate reaction from the audience, instead it invites reflection: The unknown and the enemy are the equivalent of each other, and transform into symbols of the fear and paranoia of our times.”

So there you have it folks! Apparently LaStaiti would like to film THE SQUAD US remake in Colombia though nothing has been set in stone. As always we’ll be keeping our eyes and ears open for more on the project so check back soon for updates.
