Van Damme and Lundgren have their own escape plan in Black Water

Black Water Jean-Claude Van Damme Dolph Lundgren Pasha Patriki

I can't think of much that could be cooler than getting the chance to write a movie that stars both Jean-Claude Van Damme and Dolph Lundgren, and that's what DAYLIGHT'S END screenwriter Chad Law has gotten to do with the action thriller BLACK WATER.

Directed by Pasha Patriki, the film tells the story of

a deep cover operative who awakens to find himself imprisoned in a CIA black site on a submarine. With the help of a fellow prisoner and an amateur agent, Wheeler (Van Damme) must race against the clock to escape the vessel and expose who set him up.

That plot description sort of reminds me of the 2013 Sylvester Stallone / Arnold Schwarzenegger team-up ESCAPE PLAN, since both of these films involve action heroes working together to escape from aquatic prisons.

This is the fifth collaboration between Van Damme and Lundgren, who previously worked together on THE EXPENDABLES 2, UNIVERSAL SOLDIER, UNIVERSAL SOLDIER: REGENERATION, and UNIVERSAL SOLDIER: DAY OF RECKONING.

BLACK WATER was produced by Jason Cherubini, Alexander Ferguson, Tyler W. Konney, and Richard Switzer for Dawn's Light Productions. Konney and Switzer also crafted the story with Law, who served as an executive producer alongside Patriki, David Allen, Patrick DePeters, Eric Fischer, Matthew Helderman, Joe Listhaus, Luke Taylor, and Viviana Zarragoitia.

Saban Films has acquired the North American distribution rights to the film and are planning to give it a theatrical release sometime in the second quarter of 2018. I do my best to watch everything Van Damme and Lundgren, so I'll be watching this one for sure.
