Wes Craven’s estate regains rights to A Nightmare on Elm Street

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Thank God! Wes Craven's classic supernatural slasher flick A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET starring Robert Englund as Freddy Krueger will not be falling under the same legal hell director Sean S. Cunningham and screenwriter Victor Miller's FRIDAY THE 13TH has recently. Nope, today we have word that Craven's estate has successfully snagged back the rights to his 1984 masterpiece.

We're not sure what this means just yet, but it's good to know that the film is back in the rightful hands of Craven's loved ones. Plus now we know that the franchise is safe from any years-long legal battle that may attempt to gunk up the works. Thank the f*cking lord for that!

Now I don't know about you but I'm happy as hell to hear Craven's estate managed to snag back the rights to A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET. As both the writer and director of the film, really who else deserves to own the finished product after 35 years?

For those of you that somehow might not know by this point in your life, in Wes Craven's classic slasher film:

Several Midwestern teenagers fall prey to Freddy Krueger (Robert Englund), a disfigured midnight mangler who preys on the teenagers in their dreams — which, in turn, kills them in reality. After investigating the phenomenon, Nancy (Heather Langenkamp) begins to suspect that a dark secret kept by her and her friends' parents may be the key to unraveling the mystery, but can Nancy and her boyfriend Glen (Johnny Depp) solve the puzzle before it's too late?

Wes Craven wrote and directed A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET while Robert Shaye produced. Along with Robert Englund as Freddy Krueger, the flick featured John Saxon, Ronee Blakley, Heather Langenkamp, Amanda Wyss, Nick Corri, and Johnny Depp. New Line Cinema unleashed the dream demon into theaters near your parents back on November 9, 1984. If you don't already own the film on Blu-ray (yeah, right) you can snag it HERE.
