Hughes do apocalypse

JoBloJoBlo

Whatever happened to the Hughes brothers? As both a twin and an aspiring creator of film myself, I’ve always looked up to these two, especially because I understand the struggle to create with someone you’re constantly competing with (if they didn’t compete, that’d be even more impressive). The last time I saw the directors of MENACE II SOCIETY and FROM HELL (their last effort), they were getting punked off by Tupac Shakur in his documentary RESURRECTION.

But now comes word from Variety that Joel Silver has tapped the directors to helm the post-apocalyptic thriller BOOK OF ELI for Warner Bros. The story centers around “a lone hero who fights his way across the wasteland of post-apocalyptic America. He’s the protector of a sacred book that may hold the key to saving humanity.”

Whenever the words ‘post’ and ‘apocalyptic’ show up beside each other, I’m automatically intrigued. There are so many pre-apocalyptic movies out there that they’re kind of getting tiring, you know? But seriously, the brothers Hughes have demonstrated their chops before, as MENACE II SOCIETY is one of the top films of the 90s, so any time they’re involved in a project we must give them the benefit of the doubt.
