If you’re in the UK and were looking forward to seeing the next demented chapter in the HUMAN CENTIPEDE series, you’re out of luck. The film has been completely banned by the British Board of Film Classification due to the fact that it’s “sexually violent and potentially obscene.” This means that the movie can not be distributed in theaters or sold on DVD ANYwhere in the UK.
You can find a full rundown of what the BBFC had to say about the film here, and it contains many, many graphic spoilers. Director Tom Six personally responded to the ruling, and wasn’t too pleased with the verdict or their write-up:
“Thank you BBFC for putting spoilers of my movie on your website and thank you for banning my film in this exceptional way. Apparently I made an horrific horror-film, but shouldn’t a good horror film be horrific? My dear people it is a f****cking MOVIE. It is all fictional. Not real. It is all make-belief. It is art. Give people their own choice to watch it or not. If people can’t handle or like my movies they just don’t watch them. If people like my movies they have to be able to see it any time, anywhere also in the UK.”
Yeah, I don’t really see why this film was literally made illegal. Yes, it contains twisted stuff, but again, it IS all fictional. It’s not an actual snuff film and nothing illegal is actually taking place here. Are we going to ban every film that ever featured a rape and murder? HUMAN CENTIPEDE might be the extreme example of such a concept, but I don’t think you can completely ban something just because it churns your stomach. And really, all it means is that people will now have to torrent the film instead if they really want to see it.
