In June, we reported that Tony Scott was working on a possible sequel to his 1983 vampire film THE HUNGER, which he stressed was not a “reinvention or reinterpretation”, and would “springboard off the original”. While a cool concept, it struck me as an unlikely venture. After all, how many people are really waiting for a follow-up to that flick? Especially after 26 years?
But a remake? Ahhh, we live in the age of remakes, and THE HUNGER just might be due (in Hollywood’s eyes, that is). In an article about author Whitley Strieber (who penned the novel the movie was based on), the Hollywood Reporter claims that a remake of THE HUNGER is in development at Warner Bros.
Now, it’s possible that the trade just got its wires crossed and is talking about the same thing Scott was talking about, Or it’s possible that Warner Bros. wants some o’ that TWILIGHT money, and won’t at all mind making THE HUNGER for a younger, more sparkly-vampire-loving generation…
However, let’s not make any assumptions until we hear more. In the meantime, if you haven’t seen it, check out Tony Scott’s THE HUNGER, which is a creepy, haunting vampire movie unlike most others. (It also sports some incredible make-up effects and a really terrific lesbian love scene between Susan Sarandon and Catherine Denueve!)
