I Come in Peace star Matthias Hues joins horror/western Assault on Rio Bravo

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

Last month, we shared the announcement that international action star Alexander Nevsky will be starring in Assault on Rio Bravo, an action-packed "Western with strong Horror elements", which is set to be directed by Joe Cornet (A Prayer for the Damned) and executive produced by Eric Brenner (Crazy Heart). We were already hyped for this project, but now it has gotten even cooler, as I Come in Peace star Matthias Hues has signed on to join Nevsky in the cast.

Nevsky and Hues have previously co-starred in Black Rose, Showdown in Manila, and Maximum Impact.

Scripted by Craig Hamann (Showdown in Manila), Assault on Rio Bravo has the following synopsis:

A bloodthirsty gang of outlaws is on the eve of attacking a border town to free their leader from prison. They’re an army of ruthless killers known as the most dangerous gang in the West. Their plan is to burn the entire town to the ground with everyone in it. But a handful of warriors led by a mysterious foreigner will stand in their way.

Nevsky is producing the film through his Hollywood Storm production shingle. He had this to say about Assault on Rio Bravo:

I always liked the iconic Clint Eastwood westerns and I’m really excited to make Assault on Rio Bravo with Joe Cornet who’s films Incident At Guilt Ridge and A Prayer For The Damned won Awards at many international festivals and are available now on Amazon Prime Video in North America. I hope our Assault on Rio Bravo will remind the audience of the great Sergio Leone’s films but also such action classics as Cobra (which had some horror scenes in it) and John Wick!”

Sean Murray (Deep Blue Sea 2) is co-producing and will compose the musical score for the film. Casting is currently underway in Los Angeles. And while we're at it; if you have yet to read Matthias Hues bold, brutally honest about the film biz, funny and at times moving memoirs Shirtless in Hollywood; get the book here! A fantastic read!
