In the Earth teaser: Ben Wheatley’s pandemic horror film heads to Sundance

The Sundance Film Festival is doing what many film festivals have done in recent months and becoming a virtual event. The virtual Sundance is set to run from January 28th through February 3rd next year, and among the films that will be showing is In the Earth, a horror film that director Ben Wheatley made in the midst of the pandemic. To celebrate the film getting into the festival, distributor Neon has released a short teaser online.

The teaser can be seen in the embed above, and it's the sort of teaser that takes its job of "teasing" very seriously. Viewers shouldn't expect to learn much about In the Earth from watching it.

We do know some details about the film, though. For example, the synopsis: 

As the world searches for a cure to a disastrous virus, a scientist and park scout venture deep in the forest for a routine equipment run. Through the night, their journey becomes a terrifying voyage through the heart of darkness, the forest coming to life around them.

We also know that it stars Joel Fry, Ellora Torchia, Hayley Squires, and Reece Shearsmith.

Neon financed In the Earth and produced the film alongside Wheatley and his Rook Films partner Andy Starke. Tom Quinn and Jeff Deutchman executive produced for Neon.

In the Earth was shot "in 15 spare days back in August", and Wheatley wrote the script "just to keep [his] head together" during the pandemic. Wheatley tends to do some interesting work, so I look forward to seeing this one. Neon will be releasing it sometime in 2021.
