The iconic Ghostface killer has just set their sights on another potential victim as VIDA and IN THE HEIGHTS star Melissa Barrera has recently landed a key role in SCREAM 5.

The relaunch, which hails from Spyglass Media and Paramount Pictures, already has original franchise stars Courteney Cox and David Arquette reprising their roles as ace reporter Gale Weathers and Dewey Riley, respectively. Neve Campbell, who plays Sidney Prescott in the slasher franchise, said back in May that she is in talks to join the highly-anticipated sequel. We can expect more casting announcements soon as cameras are scheduled to roll on SCREAM 5 this fall in Wilmington, North Carolina.

Barrera is an up-and-coming actress who already has a number of TV credits to her name, including her role as Lyn for Tanya Saracho's VIDA. In the show, two sisters, who could not be more different or distanced from each other, are forced to move back to their childhood neighborhood, after the death of their mother, only to discover her past and the shocking truth about her identity. Barrera also stars Warner Brothers’ movie adaptation of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Broadway musical hit In the Heights, from CRAZY RICH ASIANS director Jon M. Chu. Barrera will play Vanessa in the adaptation, Usnavi's love interest, who works at Daniela's salon. Lin-Manuel Miranda, BROOKLYN NINE-NINE's Stephanie Beatriz, Anthony Ramos, Jimmy Smits, Dascha Polanco, Corey Hawkins, and Ariana Greenblatt also star.

SCREAM 5 is directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett of Radio Silence (READY OR NOT) from a script penned by James Vanderbilt (AMAZING SPIDER-MAN) and Guy Busick (READY OR NOT, CASTLE ROCK).
