A film titled BACKWOODS BLOODBATH will generally snag my attention pretty damn quickly. Maybe it’s the use (and therefore, the promise) of the word BLOODBATH, or the fact that it’s taking place in the BACKWOODS somewhere. Either way, this little indie that could is sounding pretty awesome, and it’s headed to DVD… but only in the UK (for now).
Directed by Donn Kennedy, and starring Scott Ash, Ryan Buth, Erin Castrapel, and Angela Lowe, BACKWOODS BLOODBATH goes a lil’ something-something like this: In 1877, a fierce creature, known as Bovinus Spiritualis (the Black Hodag) was discovered in the northern woods of Oneida County, Wisconsin. To this day, locals whisper of the Black Forest, and the curse of the creature that dwells within. “Backwoods Bloodbath” is an old school horror-gore flick about six friends who take a road trip to a back country town where a local legend has been feeding off the population for decades, only to find themselves becoming the latest items on the creature’s menu.
It’s like JEEPERS CREEPERS meets the latest FRIDAY THE 13TH. Yup… now I’m really interested in this bastard. Plus, the new DVD cover art (below) is fun: a chick running away from a hand-held sickle in the woods? What’s not to love here?
When BACKWOODS BLOODBATH hits DVD in the UK April 6, the DVD will have zilch in terms of extras or features, just the movie. It’s a little indie flick, so that’s about par for a release like this.
