Insane trailer for Roar, the movie starring 150 untrained wild animals

Last Updated on July 22, 2021

Drafthouse Films is gifting us with another wild re-release, after successfully blowing our minds (well, my mind) with such titles as MIAMI CONNECTION and THE VISITOR. This one is ROAR, a 1981 bit of insanity written and directed by EXORCIST producer Noel Marshall. What makes this movie so special? How about the fact that Marshall and family (including wife Tippi Hedren and step-daughter Melanie Griffith) lived among over a hundred wild animals – lions, tigers, the works – and basically allowed the beasts to violently attack them for the movie? Like I said, insanity.

Drafthouse Films will release ROAR in select theaters this April and they’ve released this wonderful trailer to get you frothing at the mouth for it. You won’t regret the many minutes you spend rewatching this video, I assure you.

An unprecedented––and wholly unpredictable––action-adventure, Roar follows wildlife preservationist Hank (The Exorcist producer Noel Marshall in his sole and career-derailing turn as an actor and director), who lives harmoniously alongside a menagerie of untamed animals, including cheetahs, elephants, lions and tigers on a preservation in the African plains. When his wife and children arrive (real-life wife Tippi Hedren, The Birds, and step-daughter Melanie Griffith, Working Girl) for a visit, a long-brewing battle for dominance between two lions erupts and threatens their very lives.

ROAR comes out on April 17th.
