Joining the ranks of the “I think I’ve spotted my vanished child” sub-genre is Gabe Ibanez’s HIERRO, a Spanish psychological thriller he directed from a script by Javier Gullon. To my knowledge, this is the first time we’ve heard about the flick, which advantageously comes from the producers of PAN’S LABYRINTH and THE ORPHANAGE. Care to make eyes with the international trailer for the picture? Get low!
Starring the gorgeous Elena Anaya (below) as the tormented lead, HIERRO picks up when, after believing she spotted her son in a traveling caravan, a distraught mother returns to the island of El Hierro, where son disappeared three years previously.
As you can see, this isn’t the most unique of storylines, is it?!? We’ve seen similar subject matter addressed in mainstream fare like THE CHANGELING, and more under the radar work as THE CHAMELEON. For HIERRO then, it becomes about execution over originality. And judging by the new trailer, this shite actually looks like Ibanez has hit the mark!
Hugo Arbues, Jon Arino, Miriam Correa, Tomas Del Estal, Andres Herrera, Javier Mejia, Kaiet Rodriguez, Raquel Salvador, Bea Segura and Mar Sodupe all star in the film.
