One of the bright spots in indie cinema is filmmaker Adam Rehmeier. He had an excellent collaboration with Kyle Gallner in the wonderful feature Dinner in America. And don’t count out Adam’s charming comedy Snack Shack, which was an utter delight. Sparkling with rich characters and impressive performances, Adam continues to bring this charm and heart to his latest, Carolina Caroline (read our review here).
In the new feature, Samara Weaving shines as Caroline Daniels, a young woman on a quest to find her birth mother (a powerful performance from Kyra Sedgwick). Along the way, she falls for a man looking for trouble. And yes, Mr. Gallner continues to impress with another excellent performance. Kyle and Samara have undeniable chemistry, which only adds to a layered and beautifully written romantic crime drama.
Recently, I sat down with the filmmaker and the cast behind Carolina Caroline. First up, I spoke with Kyra Sedgwick and Adam Rehmeier. Considering I was so impressed with what Ms. Sedgwick brought to the screen, I asked her about any influence she had. We then jumped into how the project came to Adam.
Then came the music. Before the interview, I was speaking to Mr. Rehmeier about his hat featuring the SUB POP logo. We talked about music. We talked about Kurt Cobain. And so much more. Thus, when it came to the actual interview, I had to bring up the incredible soundtrack to the new film.
Finally, I sat down with both Kyle and Samara. Funnily enough, it was my first time interviewing Gallner. However, we’ve spoken many times before. Both actors are exceptionally talented, and in the new feature, they bring the script by Tom Dean to life. I loved speaking to everyone involved.
If you want to see a great new flick, I highly recommend Carolina Caroline.
