INT: Frank Darabont

It is safe to say that director-writer-producer Frank Darabont has a thing for Stephen King literature. He first broke into the industry with his first cult fav King flick THE WOMAN IN THE ROOM, and continued deepening his horror roots by scripting THE BLOB, THE FLY II and the third NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET. However, the three-time Oscar nominee only shot to instant fame when he finally reteamed with King on THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION and THE GREEN MILE. This time around, the ingenious dynamic duo rejoin forces to shake up audiences with their forthcoming thriller, THE MIST.

Based on Stephen King’s 1980 novella, the story centers on group of small town folk played by Thomas Jane, Toby Jones, Marcia Gay Harden, and Andre Braugher among others. Trapped in a supermarket, they fight for their lives in the aftermath of a deadly storm, which has left behind some freaky extra-terrestrial bugs lurking in a thick mist. It’s always cool to meet the creative mastermind behind these types of films and Darabont was nothing short of exuberant, engaging and friendly. I truly enjoyed chatting with him in NYC last week when he confessed his love for King, being encouraged to add a twist ending, and his longtime dream of making THE MIST. Check out what Darabont had to say.
