Now streaming on Prime Video, The Runner is an action-suspense thriller directed by Kevin Macdonald that sees Maia, a lawyer in London (played by Gal Gadot), receiving a phone call during her routine run from a mysterious man who claims to have kidnapped her son. In order to save him, Maia must comply with sinister demands and face near-impossible situations in a very short amount of time.
Does that sound a little absurd? Yes, but you know what? Gal Gadot pulls it off. Yes, I know people are generally negative about her acting ability, but the one gift the woman has is the ability to pull off very physically demanding roles, and that is on full display in this film.
No, this movie isn’t winning any awards anytime soon, but it is FAR from terrible. If this movie had come out during the mid-2000s or during Gadot’s peak as Wonder Woman, it probably would have been a modest hit. For what it is, I got some enjoyment out of it, and I think it’s worthy of a 6 out of 10 (which is exactly what our critic, Alex Maidy, gave the film in his review).
Thanks to the folks at Prime Video, I was able to catch Gal Gadot for a few minutes via Zoom as she was out promoting the movie in LA. We discussed all the hard running she did for the film, why she chose to do this project, and her love for filming movies in London.
And, of course, we discussed the elephant in the room: her involvement with Wonder Woman and whether or not she would come back to the iconic role.
