Interview: Guy Ritchie discusses his new action movie In The Grey

Guy Ritchie remains one of the busiest filmmakers. After his iconic Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch paved the way for big-budget fare like Sherlock Holmes, King Arthur, and Disney’s Aladdin, Ritchie has stayed consistent, releasing new films every year, ranging from blockbusters like Fountain of Youth to smaller projects like The Covenant. In between, Ritchie has made great fun movies like The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare and The Gentlemen, with his blend of humor and action coming together once again in his latest movie, In The Grey (read our review here).

As its title describes, In The Grey follows the operators who work in the space between legal and illegal activities. Led by Rachel Wild (Eiza Gonzalez) and her colleagues Sid (Henry Cavill) and Bronco (Jake Gyllenhaal), the film follows a team that retrieves the unretrievable. This time, they are tasked with collecting a billion dollars in stolen funds from Manny Salazar (Carlos Bardem), which requires a complex array of plotting and heist-like execution to complete their mission and save the day.

I spoke with Guy Ritchie about his new project and whether In The Grey could be the start of a series focused on these characters. Ritchie also talked about reuniting with the stars of his last three films and the dynamic presence they bring to projects like this. We also talked about what drew him to make a film about this real-world of operators who work in the grey, and what he may have coming next. Check out the full interview in the embed above.

In The Grey opens in theaters on May 15th.
