Interviews: Daniel Radcliffe and Tracy Morgan discuss their sports comedy The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins

While baseball may be America’s Pastime, there is no arguing that the NFL is the number one sport in the United States. With the Super Bowl over, fans are likely counting down the days until the 2026 season kicks off. In the meantime, they can enjoy a new comedy that features jokes and references to professional football while also incorporating The Office’s mockumentary format. From the writers of 30 Rock and executive producer Tina Fey, The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins is a touchdown!

The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins follows former NFL star Reggie Dinkins (Tracy Morgan), who is financing a documentary about his life in an attempt to make a comeback after an infamous ban from the NFL. Enlisting filmmaker Arthur Tobin (Daniel Radcliffe), who is dealing with his own professional setback, the series looks at Reggie’s life and inner circle, including ex-wife/manager Monica, fiancée Brina, adult son Carmelo, and best friend and former teammate Rusty. As Arthur chronicles Reggie’s life, audiences enjoy a comedy with a surreal sense of humor similar to that of 30 Rock and The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.

I spoke with the cast and creators of the series just after the premiere of its first episode in January. Erika Alexander discussed her return to a lead role decades after starring in the sitcomLiving Single, while Bobby Moynihan spoke about working with his former SNL colleague and Harry Potter himself. Jalyn Hall talked about keeping a straight face while working with comedy legends, while Precious Way was excited to be a part of such a dynamic cast. Daniel Radcliffe talked about how much fun it was to play around in the mockumentary format, while Tracy Morgan compared this role to his performance in 30 Rock. Co-creators Robert Carlock and Sam Means talked about this series and the lessons they learned from their prior collaborations with Tina Fe,y as well as how the NFL took their appearance in the show. The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins premieres on February 23rd on NBC.
