Is Vin Diesel really being considered to play a Terminator?

I’m calling poppycock!

While out pimping and plugging FAST FIVE, director Justin Lin seems to revel in all the TERMINATOR 5 talk. We relayed a quote he made last week, and now it seems he’s extended the talk to his pal Vin Diesel.

As you know, Lin’s name has been bandied about in regards to directing the next potential TERMINATOR movie, though various studios are currently jockeying for distribution rights for the high-yielding property. Universal is in the lead, and apparently happy with FAST FIVE (also theirs), they could officially tap Lin for job. Thing is, can you see Vin Diesel playing a terminator?

Here’s what Lin told Moviehole:

“Vin’s been a really great partner on this franchise. We’ve talked about the mythology [of the Terminator series]…[pause] he’s a great guy and a great actor. I really like working with him so anything I do I usually talk to him about. Sometimes we even talk about going back and doing a little indie movie.”

Before he could link Diesel with T-5, Lin stopped short with:

“You never know.”

Not sure about you, but I’d rather see a 65 year old Schwarzenegger return to the role than see Diesel overtake his mantle. Nothing against Vin personally, but he’s simply too high profile to take a TERMINATOR film seriously with him in it, or even headlining it. Just a bad match in my opinion.

What says you? Lend any credence to this story? If so, you in favor of Diesel as a terminator?
