When I was down in Mexico a few months ago for a set visit, a bunch of us online horror folks started chatting about the state of good werewolf films – namely the general lack thereof. In my opinion, part of the problem is that CGI transformations just don’t do it when you’ve got the awesome history of movies like THE HOWLING and AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON to live up to.
So I was pleased to see director James Isaac share with Now Playing Magazine today that he wanted to make sure the actors were visible and practical in upcoming flick SKINWALKERS:
Coming from a creature background, I really wanted to take the creature and really embrace the organic creature. I wanted to give them prosthetics. I wanted them to be real actors, not CG, so that in every shot of these creatures, there would be actors. And the make-up effects designed by Stan Winston are brilliant. We talked a long time about making sure that the actors can act through this makeup, because all the way through the film, even when they’re 100 percent beast, they’re not just running around jumping and snarling at each other, there’s a lot of emotion going on and I needed to be able to read that and see that.
Now that’s pretty goddamn sweet my friends! The rest of the interview is nice as well, as Isaac tries to manage expectations and also talks some about what’s going into determining the release date.
Now I can see no reason why we shouldn’t take a moment to enjoy lovely cast member Rhona Mitra. I’d like a little credit for making no comments concerning her effect on my member.
