I’m really starting to wonder, given his recent decision to helm a PG-13 family friendly horror outing in THE HOLE (in 3D no less), is Joe Dante joining the likes of George Romero and John Carpenter as capable filmmakers who’ve seemingly lost their way? I sure as shite hope not, but it seems Dante hasn’t made a legit genre feature since Tom Hanks was still playing a pussy in THE ‘BURBS (even that was more comedy than horror, as was GREMLINS 2 a year later). Well, we’ve got a Italian trailer for Dante’s latest to give us a better reading. Take a look and open a vein below!

From writer Mark L. Smith, THE HOLE commences:

After moving into a new neighborhood, brothers Dane & Lucas and their neighbor Julie discover a bottomless hole in the basement of their home. They find that once the hole is exposed, evil is unleashed. With strange shadows lurking around every corner and nightmares coming to life, they are forced to come face to face with their darkest fears to put an end to the mystery of THE HOLE.

Sure the trailer below is in a foreign tongue, but it also happens to have vastly different footage than the U.S. trailer we saw last month.

Haley Bennett (below), Chris Massoglia, Teri Polo, Bruce Dern (Rumsfeld in the aforementioned ‘BURBS), Nathan Gamble, Quinn Lord, Chelsea Ricketts, Merritt Patterson, Peter Shinkoda and Ali Corbin make up the principal cast.

THE HOLE, shot in 3D, has yet to score a U.S. release date. It screens in Italy June 18th.

This just in: Haley Bennett if f*ckin’ GORGEOUS!
