It’s Sophia Lillis to star in fairy tale thriller Gretel and Hansel

Sophia Lillis' future is looking quite bright. After breaking out in IT last year, the young actress has snagged several high-profile roles, including the title role in the upcoming NANCY DREW AND THE HIDDEN STAIRCASE (as Nancy Drew, not the staircase) and playing a young Amy Adams in HBO's Sharp Objects. THR has reported that Sophia Lillis' next gig will take her into the land of fairy tales as she's set to star in GRETEL AND HANSEL.

The reimagining of the brothers Grimm fairy tale will be set a long time ago in a distant fairy tale countryside and is being described as "the tale of a young girl who leads her little brother into a dark wood in desperate search of food and work, only to stumble upon a nexus of terrifying evil." THE BLACKCOAT'S DAUGHTER and I AM THE PRETTY THING THAT LIVES IN THE HOUSE writer/director Osgood Perkins will helm the film from a script he wrote with Rob Hayes. Production is expected to kick off in Ireland next fall.

Sophia Lillis will reprise her role of Beverly Marsh for IT: CHAPTER TWO in flashback sequences, as much of the film will be jumping forward several decades with the now adult Losers' club dealing with the return of Pennywise (Bill Skarsgård). The adult Beverly Marsh will be played by Jessica Chastain. IT: CHAPTER TWO screenwriter Gary Dauberman has said that the finale will likely dug at the heartstrings, teasing that "The ending I think will satisfy the audience and maybe break their hearts a little bit." IT: CHAPTER TWO will hit theaters on September 6, 2019.
