Andy Muschietti still plans to make a 6 hour It supercut when he has time

When their running times are combined, director Andy Muschietti’s Stephen King adaptations It (2017) and It: Chapter Two already add up to an epic 5 hour running time, but if Muschietti has his way there could still be another hour of It coming our way… when he has time to get around to making the six-hour It supercut that he first talked about seven years ago.

No Time

Even though Muschietti said he was already in talks with Warner Bros. / New Line Cinema about the supercut seven years ago, he and his sister / producing partner Barbara Muschietti have explained to SlashFilm that they just haven’t had the time to start working on it. Not only did they have to focus on making the 2023 superhero movie The Flash since then, but they’ve also been working on the HBO and HBO Max TV series It: Welcome to Derry, which serves as a prequel to the two movies. They’ve been too busy working on new It to work on their old It!

Andy Muschietti explained, “We didn’t have time to do it because we were involved in all kind of projects. The show had a priority over the supercut. We’re in a moment now where we can definitely go to the studio and ask for support, but when is the question. They can say, ‘Yeah, go for it,’ but now we are sort of committed, like happily committed, to season 2 of Welcome to Derry. And there’s other movie projects going around. But we’re going to do it.

He previously said the supercut “will possibly have a different structure and will have extra scenes, added scenes. I still have to film some of them … because they are the interstitial fabric between the pieces of the story.

When he first spoke about the supercut years ago, he said it would be “basically the two movies edited together with all the material that is not in the released versions. And yeah, there are a couple of scenes that I want to shoot to make this a new experience. One thing is from the novel and the other thing is not. I want to be a little cryptic about it.” Whatever he would be adding, it would boost the running time to around six and a half hours.
