Ivan Reitman updates Ghostbusters 3…no cast yet, won’t shoot in May…and more

Another month, another flaky GHOSTBUSTERS 3 update!

However, since this one comes from the director of the film (and the original, mind you), it may have a bit more credence than the spate of hearsay we’ve been subjected to over the last two years or so. You see, Ivan Reitman spoke with CinemaBlend with hopes of clarifying what all us journalists have apparently gotten wrong. Peep it…

According to the convo, Reitman states GHOSTBUSTERS 3 hasn’t even been cast…thereby rendering its reported May 2011 shoot date inaccurate (if you’ll recall, reports had the film shooting in May of 2010 as well). Reitman also disclosed the draft by YEAR ONE scribes Gene Stupnitski and Lee Eisenberg had only been turned in a month ago. Said script is now in the hands of Bill Murray for consultation/rewrites.

Here’s a quote he gave Comingsoon:

“Oh, no, yeah… I mean, Sigourney Weaver has a role in this movie. All the original characters have parts. As well as a whole bunch of new characters… it’s got a really good story, this one. Maybe the best of the whole series. I hope we get to do it.”

And there you have it. Reitman setting the record straight…which seems to equal yet further delay on GB3 flick. Honestly though, I hope Bill tore up the pages of the script he received, one-by-one, rolled them up and smoked them to ash. Don’t think I can articulate my stance on a third GHOSTBUSTERS movie any greater.

What says you cats? Think GHOSTBUSTERS 3 will get made sometime before next decade? Hell, at this point do you even wanna see a second sequel?
