Although details on Alan Taylor's TERMINATOR: GENISYS have been few and far between, the latest update from star Jai Courtney—who plays Kyle Reese in the new film—has given us a little insight into what kind of movie we can expect. So is TERMINATOR: GENISYS going to be a sequel or a reboot? Neither, actually.

What I can say is that we start in a place we're familiar with from the early films and then, you know, circumstances change. It somewhat shifts the course of events from that point. It's not necessarily a sequel or a reboot. I don't even know how you brand it correctly. We're not remaking one of the early 'Terminator' movies. And it doesn't necessarily carry on from the point where we left off.

I just woke up so I'm not even going to try and wrap my head around where they're going with this one, especially considering the fact that it's centered around a younger Sarah Connor and Kyle Reese, but with an older Arnold Schwarzenegger in the mix. Beyond that, however, a lot of us have been wondering whether or not we’ll be seeing the TERMINATOR franchise return to its R-rated roots. According to Courtney, probably not.

I would love to see it be rated R, but I don't think it will. I think in this day & age, it's much more likely to be PG-13. There were no f-bombs. But there'll be a healthy amount of movie violence.

Although that’s kind of a bummer, it’s not exactly surprising news. And he’s right, these days a movie like TERMINATOR will be slapped with a PG-13 rating 9 times out of 10. Arnold Schwarzenegger, Douglas Smith, Matt Smith, Jason Clarke, Emilia Clarke, Jai Courtney, J.K. Simmons, Dayo Okeniyi, and Byung Hun Lee star in TERMINATOR: GENISYS, which arrives on July 1, 2015.
