James Cameron takes a dive in the Deepsea Challenge 3D trailer

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

When he's not talking about making sequels to AVATAR, James Cameron can usually be found taking part in pretty exciting scientific expeditions. You may recall his journey to Mariana Trench covered on most media outlets two years ago; well National Geographic has released the first DEEPSEA CHALLENGE 3D trailer for directors John Bruno, Andrew Wight, and Ray Quint's documentary about the whole ordeal.

Here’s the official synopsis:

DEEPSEA CHALLENGE 3D follows the dramatic story of James Cameron’s odyssey as he undertakes an expedition to the deepest part of the ocean. This is a journey of historic proportion and risk. The film will mesmerize viewers of all ages with the thrill of true discovery and the allure of the unknown, of new life forms, and of vistas never before captured on camera — all right here on planet Earth.

Some people like to point out James Cameron’s narcissistic nature as if it’s a bad thing; but can you blame him? If I traveled alone to the deepest point on the planet I would have t-shirts made, bumper stickers, the whole shebang; people would have all the more reason to punch me in the face. He’s a parody of himself from time to time and that’s alright. I’m more than intrigued to watch this one and learn how it all came together and how the man pulled it off, in 3D of course.

DEEPSEA CHALLENGE 3D opens in theaters on August 8th 2014.
