James McAvoy looks to return as Prof. X for New Mutants

While X-MEN: APOCALYPSE may not have gone over well with most fans, I think it's safe to say we're all still keen on seeing James McAvoy as Prof. X in future installments. That next installment may very well be the spinoff flick, NEW MUTANTS. Helmed by Josh Boone (THE FAULT IN OUR STARS), the movie is said to feature a cast that includes Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones) as Wolfsbane, Anya Taylor-Joy (SPLIT) as Magik, and Nat Wolff (THE FAULT IN OUR STARS) as Cannonball, among others. Anya Taylor-Joy, in speaking with Coming Soon about SPLIT, may have revealed McAvoy's involvement by accident. Check it out!

Anya Taylor-Joy when asked if she'd like to reunite with James McAvoy in NEW MUTANTS:

I mean, I think James is already a part of it, isn’t he?

So what do you think? True ignorance or a slip of the tongue? Given the box-office reception of APOCALYPSE, it's no surprise that Fox would like to move in a new direction with their first X-MEN spin-off. Anchoring the film with Prof. X is a smart move, paving the way for a new cast of characters. Taking the director into consideration, I'd say we're looking at more of a coming-of-age tale than previous X-flicks have delivered. Sounds great to me!

NEW MUTANTS is rumored for a spring 2018 release.
