James Wan developing horror-thriller Stinger for Peacock

THR has reported that James Wan is developing an adaptation of Robert McCammon’s horror-thriller Stinger for Peacock.

The half-hour series, which is titled Teacup, is currently in the development stages and is being written by Ian McCulloch (Yellowstone). Robert McCammon’s 2015 novel takes place “during a 24-hour period in Inferno, Texas, a town that’s been driven to the brink by racial tension, gang violence and a collapsing economy. Things quickly get worse when an unidentified spacecraft crashes in the desert outside of town, followed by a second craft bearing the alien being who will soon be known as Stinger. Stinger is a kind of interstellar hunter on a mission he intends to complete, whatever the cost. He brings with him an endless array of technological marvels and an infinite capacity for destruction that threaten the existence of Inferno, its inhabitants, and the larger world beyond.” As for Teacup, the series is being described as following a “disparate group of people on a Texas ranch who must come together in the face of a mysterious threat.” The Peacock series will be executive produced by James Wan, Michael Clear, and Rob Hackett through the Atomic Monster banner, alongside Ian McCulloch, E.L. Katz, and Robert McCammon.

James Wan has plenty of projects in the works through his Atomic Monster production company, including a big-screen adaptation of Stephen King’s Salem’s Lot, a Knight Rider feature film, and, of course, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. Production on the Aquaman sequel wrapped up earlier this year and stars Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Amber Heard as Mera, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, Patrick Wilson as Orm, Dolph Lundgren as King Nereus, and Temuera Morrison as Thomas Curry. Director James Wan has also previously stated that Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will be heavily inspired by an unlikely source – Mario Bava’s Planet of the Vampires. “Aquaman 2 is very heavily inspired by Planet of the Vampires,” Wan teased. “You can take the boy out of the horror but you can never take the horror out of the boy.“ The sequel will hit theaters on Mary 17, 2023.
