Jamie Kennedy returning to Scream franchise?!

In a very intriguing, if frustratingly vague, development, CHUD is reporting that Jamie Kennedy is in negotiations to return to the SCREAM franchise – despite the fact (spoiler warning if you’re one of the few people who have not seen SCREAM 2) that Randy Meeks was killed off in the second installment. Chew on that for a moment…

While the site doesn’t offer any explanation as to how Kennedy would appear (in flashback form? As a ghost? As himself?), it seems pretty confidant running the story, hinting that sources close to the production have dished the info to them. They even go so far as to say it’s all but a “done deal”.

If true, it would further confirm that the Wes Craven film is seriously holding onto its roots, as opposed to just shoveling in a batch of fresh young faces (as we know, Neve Campbell, David Arquette and Courteney Cox are all on board, not to mention original scribe Kevin Williamson). This is one of the things I like about it; it makes me a little more eager to see what happens with a film I previously didn’t see much point in making.

If Kennedy does end up being in the SCREAM 4 (and beyond?), what role do you think Randy will have?
