If you're looking for Jason Statham to return to a lead role that gives him a little more meat to chew on than THE EXPENDABLES 3, then might I direct your attention to the Lionsgate film WILD CARD. Directed by Simon West (THE EXPENDABLES 2, THE MECHANIC), and scripted by the infamous William Goldman (MARATHON MAN, THE PRINCESS BRIDE), WILD CARD finds Jason Statham in over his head with the mob as he looks to to fight his way out. The international trailer for the flick has hit, which you can find below.

Synopsis:

Nick Wild (Jason Statham) is a Las Vegas bodyguard with lethal professional skills and a personal gambling problem. When a friend is beaten by a sadistic thug, Nick strikes back, only to find out the thug is the son of a powerful mob boss. Suddenly Nick is plunged into the criminal underworld, chased by enforcers and wanted by the mob. Having raised the stakes, Nick has one last play to change his fortunes…and this time, it’s all or nothing.

Simon West has proved to be an adequate action director if nothing more, but screenwriter William Goldman has me intrigued in this piece. Based on his own novel "Heat", this is Goldman's first script in over a decade, so I'm curious to see if he still has it!  Statham has been the de facto action guy for a while now, but it's been too long since we've seen a film that reminds us of why he was sought as such in the first place. If this international trailer is any indication, WILD CARD looks to be a fun ride!

WILD CARD, starring Jason Statham, Stanley Tucci and Sofia Vergara, will see a theatrical and on-demand release on January 30, 2015.
