Jay Baruchel close to signing on for Jose Padilha’s Robocop

JoBloJoBlo

Last week when I mentioned that Jackie Earle Haley was signing on for a role in the ROBOCOP remake, I threw in a tidbit that Jay Baruchel was circling. As it turns out, that deal has escalated rather quickly.

Baruchel takes the last of the lead roles. He will play, “the head of marketing for Omnicorp, the company that is building the police cyborg.” The film directed by Jose Padilha centers on, “a cop named Alex Murphy (Joel Kinnaman) who is brought back from the brink of death and turned into a cyborg police officer.”

Other members of the cast include Hugh Laurie, Samuel L. Jackson, Gary Oldman, and Abbie Cornish.

I’m interested in seeing Kinnaman take on this role. I thought it was a unique choice in the beginning. Perhaps because I had only seen him in one episode of THE KILLING. The show didn’t keep me as a viewer, but maybe I should check out a few more episodes just to get better feel for him.

Production on the film begins in September.
