THR is reporting that Jeremy Renner will star as Rocky Marciano in UNDEFEATED: THE ROCKY MARCIANO STORY, a planned biopic about the legendary boxer. The project doesn't have a director yet, but Samuel Franco (The New Adventures of Robin Hood) and Evan Kilgore (BUTTERFLIES OF BILL BAKER) have been tapped to write the script.
Born Rocco Francis Marchegiano, Marciano held the world heavyweight title from 1952 to 1956, went undefeated in his career (49-0), and has one of the highest knockout percentages (87.75) in heavyweight history. The film will follow "Marciano's life from childhood until his death in a plane crash in 1969." Do you think there's room for another boxing flick?
Renner will be back as Hawkeye in CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR (due out May 6, 2016), and will appear in the Denis Villeneuve-directed sci-fi drama STORY OF YOUR LIFE, which will likely also be released sometime next year.
