Jeremy Renner reveals his new Bourne identity

I sort of forgot that Jeremy Renner was starring in a fourth Bourne film, THE BOURNE LEGACY, that without Damon didn’t seem like a particularly good idea.

But the franchise will live on through Renner as a new amnesia-free agent, and he’s speaking for the first time about the project which has given us little detail to go on so far. He spoke to Empire about who his character is in the new film.

“My character is called Aaron Cross but he ends up having a bunch of different names. For fans of the franchise, [The Bourne Legacy] has that same ticking clock, but it’s a new programme and new characters.”

And will Treadstone return?

“Yeah, it’s that same deal, it’s just a new set of agents with a different leash. It’s the same tempo and pace but more expansive and bigger. The differences are pretty vast but you’ll know it’s a Bourne movie.”

Is it just me, or does he sound a bit…unenthused about this? “It’s the same deal, just some new agents” isn’t exactly a riveting synopsis. Maybe I’m just pulling the wrong tone out of this, but it did strike me as sort of odd. Renner doesn’t need to be the poor man’s Damon after all, as he’s become a star in his own right. Maybe he’s regretting taking this role now?
