Remember that guy, Jeremy Renner? Haven’t seen much of him lately. Apparently, between filming AVENGERS movies and restarting the BOURNE franchise, the Oscar-nominated actor found time to make a little movie called KILL THE MESSENGER. But, before you write it off as a little indie flick that will go unnoticed, check out the trailer below.

KILL THE MESSENGER comes from director Michael Cuesta who is best known as a television director but also helmed the brilliant L.I.E. back in 2001. Since then, he has directed multiple episodes of TRUE BLOOD, ELEMENTARY, and HOMELAND. It may be his experience on that latter series that prepared him for the political conspiracy laden KILL THE MESSENGER.

A reporter becomes the target of a vicious smear campaign that drives him to the point of suicide after he exposes the CIA’s role in arming Contra rebels in Nicaragua and importing cocaine into California. Based on the true story of journalist Gary Webb.

KILL THE MESSENGER also boasts one hell of a cast that includes osemarie DeWitt, Ray Liotta, Tim Blake Nelson, Barry Pepper, Oliver Platt, Michael Sheen, Paz Vega, Michael K. Williams, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, and Andy Garcia. It reminds me of a cross between BLOW and ALL THE PRESIDENT’S MEN. If it is half as good as those movies, KILL THE MESSENGER should be a winner when it hits theaters October 10th.
