Candy: Jessica Biel replaces Elisabeth Moss in Hulu true crime series

Hulu has given a series order to Candy, a limited true-crime drama series for Hulu, but it comes with a major casting change. Elisabeth Moss (The Handmaid’s Tale) was set to play Texas killer Candy Montgomery but she had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts and will be replaced by Jessica Biel (The Sinner).

Candy is set in 1980s Texas, where Candy Montgomery seemingly had it all – a loving husband with a good job, a daughter and a son, a nice house in the brand new suburbs – so why did she kill her friend from church with an ax? Robin Veith (Mad Men) wrote the pilot for Candy and will also serve as an executive producer alongside Nick Antosca (The Act). Now that Jessica Biel is onboard, she will also executive produce Candy. The pilot will be directed by Michael Uppendahl (Fargo).

The Hulu series isn’t the only one revolving around Candy Montgomery in the works, as HBO Max is also developing their own limited series about the real-life murder. Love and Death is set to star Elizabeth Olsen (Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness) on Montgomery and Lily Rabe (American Horror Story) as Betty Gore, the woman Montgomery murdered. Love and Death will also star Jesse Plemons, Patrick Fugit, and Krysten Ritter. As for Elisabeth Moss, she has plenty of other projects on the table as she’s set to play Eleanor Coppola in Barry Levinson’s about the making of Francis Ford Coppola’s The Godfather alongside Oscar Isaac and Jake Gyllenhaal. Moss is also part of the all-star ensemble cast of Wes Anderson’s The French Dispatch that includes Benicio del Toro, Adrien Brody, Tilda Swinton, Timothee Chalamet, Bill Murray, Owen Wilson, Frances McDormand, and more. The French Dispatch will hit theaters on October 22nd.
