Let's live in a world where everyone and their mother is NOT going to see STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS, regardless of the format. I mean, at this point, they could screen the film in upside-down black and white and I'm sure SOMEONE would still show up for that. In any case, there is some real incentive to fork over some of your hard-earned dollars for an IMAX screening, as J.J. and crew did film a sequence in that format. While it may be hard to find a theater showing it natively, you can bet that all of your other IMAX screens will still be sending (almost) the best possible picture and sound quality your way, but you don't have to take my word for it!
While I find 3D to be pretty non-threatening, I suppose the purist in me is more keen on checking this flick out in 2 dimensions. Still, I'm sure IMAX will be worth the price of admission just for the sound design alone. STAR WARS has always been a "theater film" in my eyes, and FORCE AWAKENS looks like it's going to follow suit with that ideology. Sounds (and looks) great to me!
