Speaking with the L.A. Times’ Hero Complex, Foster spoke of the yet to be titled new project:
“There’s a family element to it, but it’s much more a genre movie. I’d like to do that ’cause that’s a world I live in as an actor but I’ve never really gone to as a director. I’d still have to have all the other stuff in a film. It can’t just be, ‘There’s a bad guy, there’s a monster.’ It has to have all the other stuff too.”
Nice, sounds promising. Or does it…
“It’s not anywhere close to being ready,” she said. “I don’t write. I rewrite, but I don’t write, so that always puts me at the mercy of some enormous talent that comes out of the woodwork that somehow has the same obsessions as me.”
Hmm, okay then. If this project doesn’t get off the ground soon enough, what about Foster appearing in front of the camera for Neill Blomkamp’s sci-fi joint ELYSIUM?
“Yeah, yeah, yeah…but it’s only 3 weeks of work,” Foster quipped. Sounds like she’s not ready to relinquish her leading lady status, either that or she doesn’t believe strongly enough in the material to scale down her involvement. Either way, with no Foster, you can bet ELYSIUM will likely suffer.
So there it stands. One sci-fi project still far off into the future, with another one offering a scant workload. Hopefully Foster’s work in Roman Polanski’s CARNAGE will be better than f*ckin’ NIM’S ISLAND. Nah’mean?!?
