Joe Russo says that Avengers 4 is currently 3 hours long

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Clocking in at 149 minutes, AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR is the longest film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to date, but, the upcoming AVENGERS 4 may just give it a run for its money. Director Joe Russo took part in a live-streamed Q&A to promote his new bar, Duello in downtown Los Angeles, and answered a few questions about the next AVENGERS flick.

When asked how long AVENGERS 4 is at the moment, Joe Russo said that "The running time on Avengers 4 is currently sitting right at three hours. We’ll see if that holds." As they're still in the midst of editing the film, you can almost certainly expect that run-time to change, but it is interesting to see where they're at. "We’re about halfway through the editing process. We’re really just scratching the surface on all of our VFX shots," Russo continued. "There are more than 3,000 VFX shots in the movie; those require a lot of time and thought and energy and effort, and we’re very early in the phase of getting VFX done. We’ve just started work with Alan Silvestri on the score, and we’re still editing picture at this point." No matter how the final run-time shakes out, there's little doubt that AVENGERS 4 will be absolutely epic, and Russo teased that the stakes will somehow be even higher this time around.

Will the stakes be higher in Avengers 4? Absolutely. 100 percent. The highest of any of the films to date, without question.

Joe Russo also toyed with fans regarding the official title of AVENGERS 4, as he faked technical errors on two occasions which kept him from revealing it. As for when we might finally learn the title, it's likely that it won't be confirmed until the release of the first trailer, which Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has said should arrive "before the end of the year." There you have it, a small AVENGERS 4 update to keep us going on this Thursday afternoon.

AVENGERS 4 is slated for a May 3, 2019 release.
