Joel McHale becomes the first new cast-member on The X-Files mini-series

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

With the classic cast returning, THE X-FILES event series set to begin airing in January has added the first guest to the roster of talent. Community star Joel McHale will appear on the six episode series according to Deadline.

Before you get worried that McHale is going to be playing a comedic role, the actor was looking for a dramatic turn similar to his guest appearance on Sons of Anarchy last year. Chris Carter has cast him on THE X-FILES as Tad O’Malley, the anchor of a popular conservative Internet news network who becomes an unlikely ally for Fox Mulder.

While I was hoping the new series would adapt the official canon comic book run subtitled "Season 10", this newly created character counts that out. We don't know what the story will encompass but Chris Carter and David Duchovny have both confirmed that the new episodes will be a mix of mythology and standalone stories. Whatever the case, I am excited to see one of my all-time favorite series return to television. I may be one of the few that loved the second film, but THE X-FILES is best enjoyed in weekly doses.

THE X-FILES returns to FOX on January 24th, 2016.
